The internet is the great equalizer. In business specifically, it has leveled the playing field. Anyone can start a money-making online business—anyone with a computer, that is. But here’s the thing: virtually no technical experience is needed. Today there are plenty of tools you can use to build an online business that makes the technical work a lot easier than it was in the past.
So, how do you actually make money from a website? Think of a website or a blog as something similar to a newspaper or television station. Much of what you make will come from different forms of advertising displayed on your website. You can also sell products created by you or by somebody else. Here are a few different avenues to make money from your blog:
How to Get It: Customer service is the biggest work-at-home field, with companies including Spiegel, Hilton, Best Western, HSN, 1-800-FLOWERS and many others using at-home reps. Fill out an application with staffing companies such as Arise, Alpine Access, VIPdesk, LiveOps, and Convergys, all of which vet the companies who are hiring through them. If you need benefits, search through a staffing company that will hire you as an employee (Alpine Access, VIPdesk and Convergys do this) rather than an independent contractor. If you're a contractor, you may be asked to pay a small fee (between $15 and $35) for a background check. While a fee can be a sign of a scam, independent contractors are responsible for their own expenses.
Haven’t tried some of the other ideas, but they don’t look very good to me. People want everything to be free, so Skype coaching? Will they be willing to pay you? If you’re not actually generating real goods or offering a real essential service, I doubt very much that some of these ideas will actually be worthwhile. Most of them are really about how to become an advertising specialist for other people’s goods and services – not a very rewarding concept unless you like treading water and being used. Merchandising useless crap? No thanks.
Before I talk about some of the methods for making money online, I wanted to address the role of pain versus pleasure. Every decision that we make in life is weighed on a pain-versus-pleasure scale. We will always do more to avoid pain than we will to gain pleasure, plain and simple. However, this is also what holds us back from succeeding in any endeavor.
Affiliate marketing can be broken down into different levels of involvement: unattached, related and involved. Unattached affiliate marketing is a basic pay-per-click affiliate marketing campaign that requires little to no involvement with the product you are promoting. Related affiliate marketing requires you to have some authority and content on the product you are marketing, but you don't personally use the product. Involved affiliate marketing is perhaps the most effective, as you'll be marketing an affiliate product that you actually use and enjoy.
I’ve never been a fan of income or spending reports, so I’m glad you moved away from them. I think one reason people get frustrated with bloggers (myself included) is they don’t explain exactly how they make money online. I could see more than a few people get annoyed about this -> “I’m not going to spill all of the details here because they are boring, but suffice it to say that we created a few businesses that fill a need.” My first reaction was “speak for yourself! I’ll let you know if the details are boring!” And in all honesty I bet most people wouldn’t be bored hearing the details. Not that you have an obligation to share them – nor does it make sense to explain business plans – but I really do think that people get frustrated about the lack of long, detailed posts about exactly how people make money online.
And finally – I like your last statement “stop reading this post right now…”. I gave up FB at the beginning of the year and it’s made such a difference in my productivity…but I will say I probably spend WAY too much time reading blogs as opposed to growing my business and working on my own blog! Thanks for the advice!! Hope you and Greg are having a great day today! 🙂
If, however, you already have a blog with a devoted following it should be easy for you to leverage your readers into hard cash. Ad networks such as Google AdSense pay big money to place their ads on your site, and you’ll receive a payment every time a reader clicks one. While it’s easy to go overboard and fill every spare pixel, if you place your ads well it’s possible to make a comfortable income from your site.
VIPKID provides an international learning experience to children in China between the ages 4-12. Headquartered in Beijing, the company offers fully immersive one-on-one English language instruction provided online by highly qualified teachers. The curriculum is based on the U.S. Common Core State Standards and uses a flipped-classroom approach to foster creativity and critical thinking skills.

PPC and CPM Advertising: These types of ads are the quickest and easiest way to monetize your blog. PPC means “pay-per-click,” so you get paid each time somebody clicks your ad. CPM means “cost-per-thousand impressions,” so you get paid a small amount each time the ad is shown. Some advertising networks, like Google Adsense, use both PPC and CPM ads. So, each time an ad gets shown to a visitor, you make a very small amount of money. If someone clicks on the ad, you make a little bit more. For websites who generate a lot of traffic, these types of ads can be lucrative. However, too many of them can make your website look spammy, so use caution.

You shouldn’t notice any difference and the link will never negatively impact the product. Plus the editorial line (the things we write) is NEVER impacted by these links. We aim to look at all available products. If it isn't possible to get an affiliate link for the top deal, it is still included in exactly the same way, just with a non-paying link. For example, Amazon affiliates can potentially rake in obscene amounts of commission dollars if they work at it. Simply sign up as an affiliate to sell a company’s products using your special referral link, and you can get a commission for each product sold without lifting a finger. Commission ranges from product to product and also goes up in stages according to how many products sales your clicks generate. The top commission tier is 8%. That adds up to some serious amounts of cash each month if you’re promoting products with that high rate of commission ( Home & Garden is one such product area with high commissions).

If you have a knack for creating unique images, there’s no need to fuss over your own inventory. If your creations can be easily printed onto a product, then you can make money. Upload your designs on a variety of websites like CafePress. If someone likes them, the company prints them up and ships the product. You could create unique designs for calendars, books, T-shirts, bags, hats, greeting cards, or posters and get a commission for each one sold. Some of these sites include Zazzle, Teespring and Lulu.

Jumping into the field is relatively simple. Most prospective transcriptionists start by taking an online transcription course that teaches them the skills necessary to perform common job duties. Companies, such as Transcribe Anywhere, offer classes that teach students the basics of general, medical, or legal transcription, and just as importantly, how they can go about finding clients for work.
At the moment, we own two websites. We’ve decided to focus the majority of our efforts on our first and most profitable website, Club Thrifty. (Our other website, TravelBlueBook.com, doesn’t get much of our attention right now.) Although Club Thrifty started making some money within six months, it took several years for the blog to become a major contributor to our income. In 2018, Club Thrifty earned over $200,000 on its own (not counting my freelance income). And we are on track to earn considerably more than that with our website in 2019.
If you have anything you want to sell, then EBay is the place you need to seriously consider doing it first. Personally I’m not a fan of the site because of the work it takes to build up a reputation. If you’re willing to grind through that process, you’ll be rewarded with many privileges – people have gotten rich selling books about how they got rich selling everything on EBay: Click here for a few tips from the pros.
An online business model I love is utilized by GetVoiP, an affiliate marketer based in New York. GetVoiP acts as an agent for business communication providers. They maintain updated listings of VoiP providers, including ratings, comparisons, consumer reviews, in-depth knowledge of market and end-user trends, and expert opinions from business professionals on a variety of topics related to business consumers. By not only keeping abreast of news, but providing detailed analysis of products being offered, GetVoiP is able to generate traffic to their site and increase their clout with businesses.
Put in the time and see where it leads to find out. There’s something there for everyone. Whether you want to get your hands dirty or just earn an income passively, there’s plenty there on my list of online business ideas. I hope I given you some inspiration to start something yourself! How to Get It: Sylvan Learning (Tutoring.SylvanLearning.com), Tutor.com, TutorVista.com and Tutorzilla (Tutorzilla.com) all offer a good cross section of the kinds of remote-based tutoring jobs out there, and they all have great reputations with students and teachers. Since you will be working with children, you can expect a background check before you are hired.
How to Get It: Visit companies such as DarwinsData.com, PineconeResearch.com and PaidViewpoint.com. (Search "surveys" on RealWaystoEarnMoneyOnline.com for more options.) Then sign up with as many sites as you can. The sites will contact you when surveys that fit your demographic pop up, and you take them right away. A word to the wise: Do not register anywhere that has a membership fee, asks for your Social Security number or bank information, or is vague about payment. There are many survey services out there that are fraudulent.
These pay-per-click ads appear on your blog. Every time somebody clicks on an ad (which is supposed to be about a subject related to your niche), you make a few cents or more. Small amounts each time, but it adds up. This is extremely hands-off. You just need to get a code from Google, place it on your website - and the ads will automatically appear on your blog. Google will only show ads that are relevant to your blog so it's a good experience for your visitors and maximizes the number of clicks you get, meaning more income.
17. Amazon – Have you heard of FBA? It stands for “Fulfilled by Amazon” and it’s getting pretty popular. Basically, you buy products (in bulk is best) and ship them to Amazon for them to store. When your products sell, Amazon packs them up, ships them out and sends you the money (after taking their cut). There are people making a full-time living from FBA, while others just do it for some extra money.
